Introduction

The power button on your Windows 11 computer can be customized to perform different actions, such as putting the computer to sleep, hibernating it, or shutting it down. By default, the power button is set to put the computer to sleep, but you can change this action to something else if you prefer.

Here are the steps on how to change the power button action on Windows 11:

Step 1: Open the Settings app

Click on the Start button and then select the Settings icon. Alternatively, you can press the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut.

Step 2: Navigate to the Power & battery settings

In the Settings app, click on the "System" option and then select the "Power & battery" tab.

Step 3: Select the desired power button action

Under the "Power button & lid" section, click on the drop-down menu next to the "When I press the power button" option. You can choose from the following actions:

  • Sleep
  • Hibernate
  • Shut down
  • Restart

Step 4: Click on the "Save changes" button

Once you have selected the desired power button action, click on the "Save changes" button to apply the changes.

The next time you press the power button on your Windows 11 computer, it will perform the action that you have selected.

In addition to changing the power button action, you can also customize the behavior of the power button when the computer is running on battery power. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Do nothing
  • Sleep
  • Hibernate
  • Shut down

Step 4: Click on the "Save changes" button

Once you have selected the desired power button action, click on the "Save changes" button to apply the changes.

The next time you press the power button on your Windows 11 computer while it is running on battery power, it will perform the action that you have selected.
