Lunar Crescent Sighting Marks the Beginning of Ramadan

Official Announcement from Qatar Calendar House

Tuesday, April 9, 2023

Doha, Qatar - The Qatar Calendar House, a recognized authority on astronomical calculations, has officially announced the start of the holy month of Ramadan in Qatar.

According to the precise astronomical calculations, the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs confirmed the sighting of the new moon on April 9, 2023.

The first day of Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection for Muslims worldwide, will commence on Wednesday, April 10, 2023, in Qatar and many other countries.

This announcement is based on meticulous observations and calculations made by the Qatar Calendar House, which has a long-standing reputation for accuracy and reliability.

The holy month of Ramadan is a time for Muslims to deepen their connection with God, engage in acts of kindness and charity, and strengthen their ties to their community.

During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and certain other activities. The fast is broken each evening with a special meal called iftar, and prayers called taraweeh are performed throughout the nights.

The Qatar Calendar House extends its warmest wishes to all Muslims on this blessed occasion and prays for a peaceful and spiritually enriching Ramadan.
