Teamsters Vote to Reauthorize Strikes at CN and CPKC

August 22nd Earliest Possible Date for Work Stoppage

OTTAWA, April 30, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) announced today that close to 10,000 workers at CN and CPKC have voted to reauthorize strikes at both railways.

Key Points:

  • The earliest a work stoppage could occur is August 22nd at 0001.
  • The TCRC represents approximately 125,000 members across Canada.
  • The union will continue to negotiate with CN and CPKC in an attempt to reach a fair collective agreement.

The TCRC represents locomotive engineers, conductors, trainmen, and yard workers at CN and CPKC.

In a statement, TCRC President Lyndon Isaak said, "Our members have sent a clear message that they are prepared to take action to achieve a fair collective agreement."

The union has been negotiating with CN and CPKC since April 18, 2024. The current collective agreement expires on August 21, 2024.

The TCRC said it will continue to negotiate with CN and CPKC in an attempt to reach a fair collective agreement. However, the union is also prepared to take strike action if necessary.

A work stoppage at CN and CPKC would have a significant impact on the Canadian economy. The two railways are responsible for transporting goods and materials across the country.
